"The Wiz" first opened at the Majestic Theatre in Januar 1975. The production won 7 Tony Awards including "Best Score" and "Best Musical". The Wiz had a run of 1,672 performances and in 1978 a film version was made featuring Lena Horne, Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.

Based on L. Frank Baums classic fairytale "Wizard of Oz" where the little girl named Dorothy is abducted from her home by a Tornado and transported to the land of Oz. The Wiz is the more modern version of same story, but with an exiting rock score and a modern libretto to make it somehow more relevant.

Jack played The Wiz himself in the Mountview production.
